Batman v. Superman: *Revised

Updated: May 24, 2019

*2nd Revision.

During Thanksgiving, we’re hopefully able to eat great food, relax a little, and watch some movies with friends and fam.  I was able to do so, catching “Batman v Superman” for the second time.  I originally wrote a post for this movie that depicted it in a less-than stellar light.  Initially, “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” seemed like a poor yet glossy attempt to boost the struggling movie sector for one of the big comic giants, D.C.  Where “BvS” is graphically and visually stunning, the storyline leaves more to be desired.  However, after my second watching, my impression improved, albeit slightly.

Batman vs. Superman pits the two heroes against each other, due to Lex Luthor’s manipulation,  and greed for power and control.  Jesse Einsenberg’s take on Luthor was the cause of my initial distaste.  He played a spastic, antsy, know-it-all, opposite of the cool, calm, and confident Lex that has been known throughout the years.  It wasn’t until I saw the film a second time, that I realized Jesse was playing Lex Luthor Jr.  I know, I know, don’t ask how I missed this.  Apparently millions others did also, I looked it up.  Once I realized that we were witnessing Baby Lex, Eisenberg’s portrayal was a bit more digestible.  The only other qualm I have is how the members of The Justice League were introduced; a bit forced and out of place.

With all that, the movie was more palatable the second time around, but still left me yearning for more in the actual plot.  I upped the score half a point, ranking “BvS” 2.5 out of 5.
